Dead Babies Found: Mum 'Admits Killing Infants'
A Utah woman accused of killing six babies over 10 years has confessed to strangling or suffocating the newborns, authorities say.
According to a probable cause statement released by police, Megan Huntsman told investigators that she killed the infants and stuffed their bodies inside boxes in her garage.
She reportedly told police that she gave birth to at least seven babies at her home between 1996 and 2006, and that all but one of them were born alive.
Huntsman, 39, said she killed the babies immediately after they were born.
The statement said each baby was wrapped in either a towel or a shirt and placed in a plastic bag.
Huntsman is being held on $6m bail after a judge set it at $1m for each baby she is accused of killing.
She was arrested on Sunday after police received a call from her estranged husband about a dead infant in a house in Pleasant Grove, 35 miles south of Salt Lake City.
Huntsman moved out of the house three years ago.
An elderly couple living next door said they were "shocked" to learn of the charges against the woman, who they had let watch their own grandchildren.
"She was always a good babysitter, we thought," Kathie Hawker told KUTV.
"We just really loved her and her husband and family and thought they were really good people."
Police Captain Michael Roberts has said investigators believe Huntsman's estranged husband had no knowledge of the situation.
Utah County Attorney Jeffrey Buhman said investigators are trying to determine if the seven babies had the same father or multiple fathers.
