Dean Gaffney hopes car crash scar leads to bad guy roles

Dean Gaffney is hopeful the scar he's sporting following a horrific car crash will work in his favour by putting him in the running for baddie roles.

The former EastEnders star was hospitalised on 30 January after his Mini Cooper vehicle smashed into a steel barrier in Derby.

Gaffney wasn't wearing a seat belt and smashed his head on the steering wheel, leaving him with a huge gash on his forehead which had to be stitched up by doctors.

He's now shown off his scar and reveals he is upbeat about his career prospects - as his injury may help him win roles.

The actor, who has previously applied for a job at MI5, tells The Sun, "People keep saying, 'It's fine, you can play a character actor, a baddie'. I wanted to be 007 but now I've got more chance of being a Bond villain.

"I wasn't getting Hollywood movies before so maybe the scar will work in my favour. My agent even joked, 'Dean, the things you do to get better roles'."

Gaffney also reveals his 16-year-old twin daughters Chloe and Charlotte have joked about his scarred face.

He adds, "They kept trying to poke my scar and examine it and were saying, 'B**ody hell, dad, you'll never work again'.

"I didn't get annoyed because I knew it was tongue in cheek."

Not wearing a seatbelt? I don't understand why people don't!

Scars are handy in bad-guy roles. However, you can get the makeup people to sort these out for you. Who's going to tell the guy he needs a manly voice, too, and some ability to act?

Do you get prosecuted for not wearing a seat-belt these days?
