Doherty reconciles with dad

Cult rocker Pete Doherty has reunited with his estranged father after they met up at a family wedding last year.

The star's dad disowned him in 2004 over his crippling addition to heroin and crack cocaine, vowing to shun the former Libertines frontman until he kicked his habit.

Doherty is still struggling to overcome his drug demons but is adamant his wildman years are behind him and he's ready to settle down with his new mystery girlfriend.

And his father Peter was so impressed with his efforts to clean up, he's welcomed his son back into the fold.

The singer/songwriter tells The Independent, "The family was all there together (at the wedding) and I think my father was a little bit surprised at how compos mentis (coherent) I was. He turned around and said that I was welcome to come home for Christmas. That was the first time in six years he's said that."

Doherty also insists he's determined to kick drugs for the sake of his new partner, and he's even sparked speculation he's set to wed after telling fans how his womanising days are "over" and he's now a "one-woman man".

He adds, "I've stopped injecting... The only way I see myself in a serious relationship is if I am toning it down a bit. When you're banging up (injecting heroin) all day you can't really have someone else in your life, especially if she's an English rose."
