Eddie The Otter Scores Well In Basketball
An old grey-haired sea otter at a US zoo has captured the hearts of the public with his basketball skills.
Fifteen-year-old Eddie suffers from arthritis in his elbows and has been taught to play basketball to improve his joint function.
His condition was spotted during an X-ray by Oregon Zoo vets who decided to come up with some creative ideas to help their furry charge.
"There aren't many natural opportunities for Eddie to work those arthritic elbow joints because sea otters don't use their front limbs to swim - they swim by moving their back legs and flippers," explained zoo leader Jenny DeGroot who revealed Eddie learned to master the sport last year.
"Sea otters have incredible dexterity, so it makes sense Eddie would have this hidden talent. They're famous for using rocks as tools to crack open clams."
The zoo has been Eddie's home since he was abandoned as a pup.
