Emeli Sande surprises Scottish kids on school trip

Pop star Emeli Sande surprised pupils at her former school in her native Scotland last week by making a secret visit on the last day of term.

The singer, who has scored a Christmas number one with her hit album Our Version Of Events, went home to Aberdeenshire on Friday for the holidays and she marked the occasion by returning to her former school in Alford.

Sande organised the trip with the help of her mother and she managed to keep it a secret.

She tells the BBC, "That was great. My mum had managed to organise the surprise with the head teacher from my primary school and for the academy (secondary school) as well. So we went and surprised the kids. It was their last day of the term and they had just come back from their Christmas party and they weren't expecting it at all.

"We managed to keep it a secret from the teachers as well so it was really lovely. I sang Next To Me on the piano so it was a really lovely thing to do for Christmas, I think."
