England World Cup Team Get Zeroes' Welcome
The England football team have returned from Brazil to a muted welcome after their worst ever campaign at the World Cup finals.
England's chartered plane landed in Manchester on Wednesday afternoon before it dropped off the southern-based squad members in Luton.
Only a small collection of security staff were there to greet the players and coaching staff, who had been away for four-and-a-half weeks.
The 23-man squad touched down on home soil less than 24 hours after drawing 0-0 with Costa Rica in their third and final World Cup game.
They finished bottom of their group after being beaten 2-1 by both Italy and Uruguay in their previous fixtures.
It was the first time they had failed to make the knockout stage of the competition since 1958.
Before England left Brazil manager Roy Hodgson gave an interview to talkSPORT in which he admitted the team had not lived up to expectations.
"We feel very sorry for the fans who expected so much from us." he said.
"We accept we have failed and we will do our best to put it right before 2016."
England will next be in action in September when they begin their qualifying campaign for the 2016 European Championship.
