Euro 2012 tournament by numbers

Sixteen teams will battle it out in Ukraine and Poland over 24 days to lift the Euro 2012 trophy.

Here are some key numbers:

31 - games during the tournament, kicking off with co-hosts Poland v Greece at Warsaw's National Stadium on Friday June 8 and culminating with the final at Kiev's Olympic Stadium on Sunday July 1.

16 - teams taking part, beginning with four groups of four.

Eight - stadiums hosting the matches.

5,500 - volunteers will help out during the tournament.

150 million - television viewers expected to watch the opening ceremony and match.

1.4 million - tickets went on sale.

600 - the price in euros (£480) of the tournament's most expensive ticket.

368 - footballers included in the squads, from Italian defender Ignazio Abate to Russian midfielder Konstantin Zyryanov.

129 - games played by Spanish goalkeeper Iker Casillas, making him the most experienced player at the finals.

Four - weeks between Roy Hodgson's first full day as England manager and his team's opening game at Euro 2012 against France.

Three - times Germany has won the tournament, more than any other nation.

Seven - goals scored by England's Alan Shearer in European Championships, putting him second behind Michel Platini who hit the back of the net nine times for France.

199 - height in cm (6ft 6in) of the tallest player, Swedish goalkeeper Andreas Isaksson.

13 - previous European Championships, the first of which was won by the USSR in 1960.

5,000 - total distance in miles (8,047km) the England team will travel from their base in Krakow, Poland, during the opening three games.

60 - height in cm (23.6in) of the Henri Delaunay Cup, given to the winning team.
