False Rape Claim: Woman Jailed For Two Years

A woman who lied to police about being raped by three men after she regretted sleeping with them has been jailed for two years.

Rosie Dodd claimed the men assaulted her at a house a house in Clifton, Nottinghamshire, after she met them on a night out in Nottingham.

The men, all in their 20s, spent nearly 50 hours in custody before being released on bail.

When police began to question the inconsistencies in Dodd's account, she admitted that the sex was consensual.

Following the sentencing, Detective Constable Gina Farrell, from Nottinghamshire Police, said: "We take every report of rape and sexual assault extremely seriously, just as we did in this case.

"But it soon became apparent that there were inconsistencies with Dodd's account.

"The three men accused of rape were quite badly affected by the damaging accusations and Dodd has never shown an ounce of remorse for what she put them through.

"The time our specially trained officers spent with her could have been spent with someone who really needed our help."

Dodd was charged with perverting the course of justice and had pleaded guilty at any earlier hearing.

Detective Inspector Stephen Waldram, head of the city rape investigation team, said: "People lie that they've been raped for a multitude of reasons - like having regrets about having sex with a person, or as a way of getting back at someone.

"There is no justification for lying about something so serious and incredibly damaging and police actively investigate a false claim just as thoroughly as a genuine one to ensure innocent people are not convicted for something they didn't do."

However, he stressed that anyone contacting police to report an assault would be treated with sensitivity and respect.

"It can be incredibly difficult for victims of rape to come forward to police and tell us what's happened to them, which is why it's so important for us to prosecute those who take up our time by lying to us," he said.

"I would urge genuine victims to come forward and tell us if they have been raped or sexually assaulted. Only then can we begin to bring those responsible to justice.

"And I would remind anyone considering making a false report to think again. We carry out extremely thorough and in-depth investigations and their lies will be exposed."

Just how many have done the same. Rape is an horrible crime and the perpetrators should be castrated but when you get women doing this then it is not workable

Rape suspects should, in my opinion, be given anonymity until proven guilty. Even if found innocent these men can still live their lives with an unjust taint to their reputation. It is a despicable thing to rape someone, it is just as despicable to falsely accuse. Hopefully this woman's actions will not stop genuine victims coming forward..

Poor men. Lives and reputations ruined. Evil woman should have had far longer in jail. Rape is a vile wicked crime. Lying about it is equally vile and wicked.

This is awful, poor guys. I knew a fella once who was accused. Thankfully, it never went as far as court because she admitted that she'd lied and apologised, but she was close to being arrested for false accusation.

Yes I agree. I meant thankfully for him it didn't go that far before she retracted.

How can we expect to give genuine victims justice when there are twisted individuals like this?

Lucky they caught her out. To lie about something so serious is vile. No wonder lots of victims do not speak out.
