Family Of Six Killed In Spanish Hotel Fire
A family of six has been killed and another five relatives injured in a hotel fire in northern Spain.
Spanish authorities said three adults and three children, aged between four and six, died from suspected smoke inhalation after the fire broke out in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Firefighters and ambulances were called to the small rural hotel in the northern town of Tordomar where several more family members were trapped.
Another three adults and two children were taken to hospital with minor burns and respiratory complaints.
The injured include a seven-month-old baby boy and a girl aged five.
Ramiro Ruiz Medrano, Interior Ministry spokesman for the northern region of Castilla y Leon, said the five were in a stable condition and recovering well.
He said the family had been in bed asleep when the blaze broke out.
Local media cited Spanish officials saying the fire was started by a spark from a fireplace setting alight a sofa.
The family were thought to have been staying in the hotel for a celebration.
