Gangnam Style Most Watched Video On YouTube
South Korean pop sensation Psy's video for Gangnam Style has become the most-watched clip ever posted on YouTube.
The song has registered more than 809 million views online, overtaking Justin Bieber's Baby which had just over 803 million.
Rapper Psy, 34, became a global star after Gangnam Style's release in July.
The song, which refers to an upmarket neighbourhood in Seoul, has topped charts from Britain to Australia.
In his Gangnam Style video, the outlandishly dressed Psy raps in Korean and dances in the style of a well-to-do person riding an invisible horse.
The song has also generated countless parodies and been mentioned by some of the world's most important people including US President Barack Obama and UN chief Ban Ki-moon.
In a post by YouTube on its Trends blog, the site said: "Gangnam Style was first posted to YouTube in July, and by the following month it began to show huge popularity with audiences outside of South Korea.
"It's been a massive hit at a global level unlike anything we've ever seen before."
The blog also said the "velocity" of the video's popularity was unprecedented for YouTube.
The official YouTube view count for Gangnam Style represents only the figure for the original video posted to the site, not copycat versions, parodies or copies of the video on other websites.
Counting all those different versions, Gangnam Style and its related videos have more than 2.2 billion views across the Internet, said Matt Fiorentino, spokesman for the online video tracking firm Visible Measures.
"Without the dance, I don't think it would have been as big as it is," he said.
"Psy has a unique sense of humour which comes through in the video. He doesn't take himself too seriously."
