George Michael bits back at Olympics performance critics

George Michael has angrily blasted critics of his performance at the closing ceremony of the London Olympics on Sunday night, after he was accused of using the event as a platform for self-promotion.
The Faith hitmaker was one of the superstar performers who helped to bring the 2012 Games to a close, but came under fire after choosing to sing his new track White Light instead of his more popular hits.
Some critics blasted him for promoting the release of the song in front of an international audience, but Michael, who also performed his classic hit Freedom, has refuted the claims on Twitter.com.
He writes, "Had a GREAT time at the closing! I hope you are not bothered by the press reports of my scandalous 'promotion'.
"Please join me in telling them to f**k off! It was my one chance on TV to thank you all for your loyalty and prayers, and I took it. And I don't regret it."
The star's representative has already insisted he chose White Light as it is "a celebration of being alive" following Michael's brush with death last year after contracting pneumonia.

He cannot do right for doing wrong, give him a break, he wanted to celebrate his recovery from nearly dying and to thank all his fans, I am not a fan of his but was glad he got better and actually I enjoyed his performance, at least he can sing which could not be said of some of the acts. Wish people would show some positivity instead of knocking people at every chance.

Of course the reporters could have done so much better give em a few pints of lager and they are great. I think not but then they had to knock someone. All performers did well even the granny spices.

Debra Wiseman
It blatantly was.

George-you are a star, always have been and will forever more.As far as I am concerned,he could have sang"Doing The Lambeth Walk"and it would have been great.First time I heard White Light-great song George-you were a star among mediocrity!!

Sharon Farlow Lee
you was brilliant what a showman

We dont all love you george. I for one cant believe that he was put up there as a proud sign of Britains music past. With the disgusting record of drug abuse and sexual offences he should never be seen again. He has nothing to be proud of and should not have been given that platform suggesting thatthe british public are proud of him

I just had time to have a little think about this - the Powers have therefore forgotten about his crashes into shops and things under the influence of drugs, his spell in jail and his fall from grace following all that nastiness about his bottom hunting in toilets. I think it was selective forgiveness to cash in on his appearance. They can do this when they choose...
