Gloucester Salon Knife Victim Was 'Beautiful'

Friends have paid tribute to a "beautiful" hairdresser who died after a knife attack in a beauty salon.

Police say they believe Hollie Gazzard, 20, knew the person who allegedly stabbed her at her place of work in Gloucester city centre.

Officers were called to reports of a man attacking a woman in a shop in the cityat around 5.50pm on Tuesday.

The ambulance service attended the scene at the Fringe Benefits & La Bella Beauty salon in SouthgateStreet and took MsGazzard to hospital, where she later died.

Gloucestershire Police arrested a 22-year-old man on suspicion of murder at an address in the city the early hours of Wednesday morning and he remains in custody.

The force's Acting Chief Inspector Neil Smithsaid it is believed Ms Gazzard knew her alleged attacker.

"Gloucester is a safe place to live, work and visit and this type of incident is rare," he said.

A force spokesman said next of kin and the coroner have been informed of Ms Gazzard's death.

Forensics officers have been examining the taped-off salon, while flowers have been left by the nearby police cordon.

In a short biography, which Ms Gazzard apparently wrote for the Fringe Benefits website, she said she had been working as a hairdresser since she was 16.

The description says: "I am a very passionate individual and take great pride in my work so can offer all my clients a unique professional and personal experience.

"I am a fully qualified and experienced level 3 hair designer, with a blend of in-salon and academy training.

"I have recently worked on a cruise ship which was an enlightening experience but was not for me.

"I am now back in my home city and very excited to join Fringe Benefits and be part of their lovely team.

"I enjoy spending my free time with friends and family and going on shopping trips. I also like to keep fit and own a Pomeranian which keeps me on my toes."

Friends posted tributes on social networking websites.

Mike Conley wrote: "Life is precious, live every single day to the full. If you love someone tell them. Hollie Gazzard you are beautiful inside and out. RIP."

After the attack on Tuesday, care worker Alec Rosam, 30, who lives across the road from the salon, told the Gloucester Citizen: "I heard some screaming and shouting coming from the direction of the hairdressers about 5pm.

"I didn't think much about it at the time because there is a B&B hotel opposite me where there is often trouble.

"But when I came out of my flat later there were four police cars and an ambulance outside the hairdressers.

"I was shocked when I heard someone had been stabbed in there. I have lived here since 2008 and I have never seen anything like this happen here before."
