Great White Shark Attacks Two Kayakers

Two women in kayaks have had a lucky escape after they were attacked by a great white shark off the coast of Massachusetts.

The shark bit into one of the kayaks as the two women were taking photographs of seals off Plymouth, leaving a bite mark on the kayak.

Both kayaks were overturned, sending the women into the water.

One of them, Ida Parker, said: "That was the scariest part - being in the water and thinking, 'Is it under us? Is it around us? Is it going to come back? What if I move? When is somebody going to get to me? Is anybody going to come save us?'

"We just didn't know anything. We sat in the water for about 30 minutes and it was the scariest 30 minutes of my life."

The shark swam away and the women were unhurt.

The Plymouth harbourmaster rescued them after an onlooker called 911.

Ms Parker and her friend Kristin Orr, both in their 20s, are from the area and are expert kayakers, local reports said.

The sharks hunt seals off the Massachusetts coast each summer.
