Greyhound Bus Driver Attack Caught On Camera
Video of the moment an out-of-control passenger launched an unprovoked attack on a bus driver in Arizona has been released by police.
The Greyhound bus was en-route from California to Tennessee when Maquel Morris, 25, suddenly dashed down the aisle and assaulted the driver while the other passengers were asleep.
Despite another passenger trying to intervene, the driver lost control and crashed into the central reservation, injuring 27 passengers, including three who had to be airlifted to hospital.
Authorities praised the actions of the driver who kept control of the vehicle enough to prevent it from overturning, despite the attack causing him to swerve across Interstate 10 at 70mph.
The attack took place in January but police have only just released the video from the security camera on the bus as well as a recording of the 911 call the driver made to police moments after the bus crashed.
"I'm on a Greyhound bus. We crashed in the median," the driver is heard saying.
"A guy jumped me while I'm trying to drive the bus. We're in the median. We're on Interstate 10 Eastbound. I don't know the exit."
Speaking from jail several days later, Morris, who is from Los Angeles, said: "I never meant to hurt anybody".
Police believe he may have been under the influence of drugs when he launched the attack.
