Guillermo Del Toro too busy for Star Wars
Filmmaker Guillermo Del Toro turned down the chance to direct the next installment of Star Wars because he has too many other projects on his plate.
Creator George Lucas sold his production company LucasFilm to bosses at Disney last year and executives have been searching for a suitable replacement to take over the epic movie franchise ever since.
Now Del Toro reveals his name was thrown into the mix to helm the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII - but he was forced to decline due to his busy schedule.
He tells IndieWire.com, "We got one phone call to my agent saying, 'Is Guillermo interested?' And basically I have so much stuff already of my own, and I'm pursuing stuff that I'm generating already."
Yet the Mexican star insists it was an honour just to be considered: "It was very flattering (to be asked)."
Del Toro was also forced to walk away from The Hobbit after signing on to direct the Lord of the Rings prequel - due to a scheduling conflict.
