Holloway Suspect To Be Extradited To US In 2038
The chief suspect in the disappearance of teenager Natalee Holloway will be extradited to the US - but only after he completes a prison sentence for murder in 24 years' time.
Joran van der Sloot is serving 28 years in Peru after being convicted of killing 21-year-old Peruvian student Stephany Flores, who he met in a Lima casino.
A decree published in Peru's official gazette says he will be extradited in 2038 under an indictment in US District Court in the state of Alabama.
Ms Holloway vanished during a high school graduation trip to the Dutch Caribbean island of Aruba on May 30, 2005.
The 18-year-old was last seen leaving a bar with van der Sloot, a Dutch national, who lived there at the time.
Her body was never found, and no charges were filed against van der Sloot in the case. A judge later declared Ms Holloway dead.
US prosecutors allege van der Sloot accepted $25,000 (£15,000) in cash from Ms Holloway's family in exchange for a promise to lead a lawyer for the family to her body in early 2010, just before he went to Peru.
Ms Holloway's disappearance occurred five years to the day before he killed Ms Flores, a 21-year-old business student.
