Ice Alert: Temperatures Could Plunge To -10C

Drivers are being urged to watch out for icy conditions and freezing fog on the roads with temperatures forecast to drop to as low as -10C in parts of England overnight.

The cold conditions look set to stay until the weekend with sub-zero temperatures making travelling hazardous for drivers and adding to air and rail travel delays.

The Highways Agency have confirmed that gritters were sent out to treat and clear roads in eastern areas on Monday night and during the early hours of Tuesday.

The icy spell has seen daytime temperatures dipping four or five degrees lower than average for February, which is traditionally the coldest month of the year.

Church Fenton in North Yorkshire saw the biggest snowfall over the weekend, recording 16cm (6in).

The thick blanket of snow that fell over parts of the UK caused major travel disruption, with Heathrow Airport axing half of all flights on Sunday night.

The RAC has reported the busiest February weekend in its history, with 41% more calls than usual.

The worst-affected area was Devon and Cornwall which had twice the usual number of call-outs.

The South of England had 80% more breakdowns than usual and the West Midlands and Wales had 65% more.

A 25-mile (40km) long section of the A1 northbound was closed for a number of hours on Monday morning after a series of crashes between Allerton Park, near York, and the Catterick area.

:: More than 30 more deaths have been reported as a result of the bitterly freezing weather that has swept across Europe.

what do you think?

Read your Bible dear, the earth and its conditions atm don't belong to God. The Bible states: "The whole world is lying in the power of the wicked one." (John 12:31; 1 John 5:19) That "wicked one" is Satan the Devil, a powerful spirit creature who is described as "the ruler of the authority of the air." Satan promotes "the spirit that now operates in the sons of disobedience." (Ephesians 2:2) Some crimes, such as genocide and child abuse, have been so horrific that many find it hard to attribute them to mere human origin. However, does this mean that God is indifferent to our suffering? Can he?will he?do anything to end it? Well it is for all of us to find out.

They were saying that it was going to turn milder this week. By putting out conflicting forecasts, one has to be somewhere about right and the one that proves so, will be used to show how good the Met Office are; the others will be forgotten. The Met Office might as well be closed down; we can ill afford an expensive lie factory.

Janice, It's weather, it's winter. Sorry but nothing to do with gods glory. I do not knock anyones religious beliefs but... come on. That is a bit OTT. It may be warm next week, again it's just weather.

It's about time Orange blocked the lunacy rants of these religious nutters. For your information there is NO SUCH THING AS A GOD, neither are there such things as FAIRY'S, LEPRECHAUNS, PIXIES, SAINTS, ELVES, GOBLINS, GHOSTS, OR NON-GREEDY BANKERS! Maybe it's time to come to terms with reality and accept once and for all that we have to learn to live with whatever mother nature throws at us and as Baden Powell used to say....'BE PREPARED!

I thought these boards were for opinion so if you believe in God you should be allowed to view your opinion. Likewise if you don't. Unless you know more than anybody else on the matter nobody knows for sure. Back to the subject at hand I WISH THEY WOULD REPORT HOW DIFFICULT IT IS FOR PEDESTRIANS NOT EVERYONE DRIVES.

The weather is down to the seasons and some complex thermodynamic physics. I somehow cannot see "mother nature" saying "what should we do to make life difficult for the humans today dear". More to do with chaos theory than a sentient being controlling it. That is why forecasters are so often wrong.
