Idris Elba was considered as black Bond

Skyfall star Naomie Harris has confirmed reports suggesting actor Idris Elba was once considered as the first black James Bond.

The actress tells The Huffington Post that Elba has her vote for the role, when Daniel Craig steps down as 007, after working with The Wire star.

And she reveals there has been talk about her Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom co-star giving Bond a makeover.

She explains, "I didn't realise that there was this talk and then I did a film with Idris and he said that he met (Bond producer) Barbara Broccoli and that it does seem like there is a possibility in the future that there could very well be a black James Bond.

"I would have to vote for Idris because I just finished working with him and he's a great guy."

political correctness. I like Elba as an actor but bond was written as a white man. Not a woman, not any other race - why change what works just to appease the minority? Marvel comics have done that - they've "rebooted" Untimate Spiderman with a black boy becoming Spiderman. Lets just say the comic is soon to fold. If it aint broke - don't fix it
