Inbetweeners 2 Breaks Records On First Day
The Inbetweeners 2 has had the biggest ever opening day for a comedy at the UK box office, taking over £2.75m.
The sequel, set in Australia, beat its predecessor which took Will, Simon, Jay and Neil to Crete and made £2.58m in 2011.
The new film, which opened on Wednesday, has received largely positive reviews, with some critics saying it is ruder but funnier than the first film.
It scored the third highest Wednesday for any opening film, behind Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince and Lord Of The Rings: Return Of The King.
The Inbetweeners 2 was written and directed by the E4 series creators Damon Beesley and Iain Morris.
Actors Simon Bird, James Buckley, Joe Thomas and Blake Harrison said at the premiere on Tuesday that fans would be unlikely to see a trilogy of films as they expect to call it a day.
Bird, 29, who plays Will, said: "Once you see the film you'll see it feels like they've all moved on with their lives, so unfortunately this is it. It's a great way of saying goodbye."
The first Inbetweeners film is the most successful British comedy ever and took over £45m at the box office.
