Iran: US Carrier's Hornets Set To Sting

From the deck of one the largest, most powerful warships in the world, the attack jets of the most powerful country in the world take to the skies above the Arabian Gulf.

The missions from the USS Dwight D Eisenhower, a Nimitz class carrier, are an almost bone-shudderingly loud constant.

The jets, 44 in total, scream into the skies across the Middle East, Pakistan and Afghanistan day and night.

But we are just 80 miles south of Iran, and Carrier Strike Group 8 knows its next biggest task could involve Iran, shipping lanes and keeping the world's oil supplies moving.

Led by the Eisenhower, the Strike Group spends at least half its time in the Gulf.

Iran has threatened to respond to attacks from Israel, or anyone else for that matter, by closing the Strait of Hormuz, a narrow waterway through which 20% of the world's oil is shipped.

The man commanding the Strike Group, Rear Admiral Michael Manazir, says he does not plan for the unilateral action of any country within his area of operations, but concedes that Iran is a problem he may have to deal with.

He said: "Our presence ensures that economic prosperity can be enjoyed by those who want to use the Strait for economics, for oil transit, for any imports that are coming in.

"Our presence actually ensures that stability against any country that would want to close the Strait."

The Group uses helicopters and jets to watch for Iranian ships attempting to place mines or threaten oil-related assets.

The admiral revealed his vessels are in daily contact with their Iranian counterparts. "Like you I have read about our apparent poor relations," Admiral Manazir told Sky.

"But we actually have daily professional interactions with Iran. This is a stable relationship for now."

They are hardly leaving anything to chance. Battle drills are a regular feature of everyday life.

Fearing an attack from Iran's Revolutionary Guards' much-publicised flotilla of fast speedboats, the crew aboard the Eisenhower practise for multiple attacks and casualties.

Some of the 14 decks of the ship are filled with fake smoke to simulate the attack, while the four acres of the flight deck practise emergency procedures.

"What that first attack will be I don't predict," says the ship's commanding officer, Captain Marcus Hitchcock.

"But I do posture myself to be prepared to repulse any attack and to continue our mission whatever that may be."

An Israeli attack on Iran or an Iranian intervention in the Gulf would likely escalate instantaneously an already, at times, tense situation.

The Strike Group has been deployed for the longest planned mission in a decade. Nine months they will be on station, and it could be a very busy posting for all involved.

Jimmyjedi and you are both right. We all know it's fact that America wants a war with Iran for both economic reasons and because her Israeli masters want middle east domination. Let us not forget that Israel also illegally holds nuclear weapons and are adamant they are prepared to use them. Iran should have the right to own it's own nuclear power stations for the creation of electicity as oil will not last for ever, but at the same time their theocratic government is a very real and frightening abomination. I fear this will all end in tears and in the not too distant future!

Iran are not building a nuke! They are moving away from the petro dollar! Just like Iraq tried to, and Libya hence why they were smashed into the ground and the dollar for oil system put back into place. You see- opec signed up to sell oil for dollars- which means any country that wants to buy oil first has to exchange their currency for dollars or send America material goods for dollars. Either way America get richer and richer. All they have to do is print worthless money from fresh air. This sustains their cheap and high standard of living. Libya was implementing a single African currency called the gold dina and were set to trade oil for gold. Iraq tried to sell oil for Euro's. And now Iran want to sell their oil for gold. America knows the dollar will collapse if Iran breaks away from the petro dollar so has tried to frighten the world into believing Iran are gonna nuke Israel and the west. Don't take my word for it though- research it for yourself. So yeah- this relentless slaughter of the middle east is about the Americas wealth. Should you threaten it you will be smashed into the ground. They are desperate to go to war with Iran. This is why we see Syria on the news now, Irans military ally. Its a gateway into Iran. They are begging for Iran to attack or give them a reason to destroy them. False flags, lies and propaganda.stay strong Iran.

You are just giving us a 'soft coshing'. If Iran was a democracy you could talk to them, but they are not, you are talking to a regime that has aspirations to survive against the current tide against despotic regimes and prosper regionally. So much for the US wealth, all the huge debts are owned by China. I am sure most of the people of Syria see themselves as a bit more than mere pawns.

The petro dollar is about to collapse. If they can't manipulate a war with Iran the American people will become very poor. America will ascend into complete and utter carnage. And in turn all fiat currencies will have little value. Stock up on gold com silver people- cus this isn't the tin foil hat brigade speaking. This is real and happening now.

What's sad here Alexandra is that i know you didn't read my post in its entirety..you just want to remain ignorant. Its all factual and even the mainstream media are talking about it lol yet you carry on acting like a little troll trying to manipulate the context of the things i have said to suit your own amusement. Its not chins clever, but it does speak volumes about the fast paced and exciting life you must lead

Jimmy - I dont doubt what you say about oil and American foreign policy - and I'm fully aware of how deceitful and greedy western governments are; but Iran having a nuclear weapon is bad news for the world. The Iranian regime is a theocratic revolutionary state - what happens if the Ayattolah has a vision and thinks God has commanded him to nuke Israel? Tehran's desire to play in foreign politics is historic and the current regime brutally surpresses any dissent from its own people. The Arab Spring needs to sweep through Iran

Stevie i don't believe they are. And in any case - have you noticed how American and us UK poodles don't mess with countries that do have nuclear weapons? Wouldn't this make having a nuclear weapon a necessity for your own nations safety to deter the west from invading and stealing your resources and cutting in pro west puppet governments. It all makes sense mate. Our policies are what's making this world dangerous, and not much else.

So many double standards in politics. Politics is similar to religion, where you get these powerful figures who stand up and tell you what's right and wrong, and at the same time they themselves are abusing what they preach. Let's really not forget America is the only country to have actually used a nuclear bomb. And here we r now listening to them. Something really wrong here. Don't get me wrong as I really don't like the Iranian regime either.

Well from a British perspective we are glad to be still in an English speaking world. If it wasn't for Americas intervention we would be German, probably. Stability (and prosperity) comes in many strange ways, The Marshall Plan, huge loans to Britain when desparate, nukes as a deterrant! Democracy is still fragile. There are many who hope it will yet die.
