Israel Points Finger At Iran Over Bombings

Israel has accused Iran of being behind a car bombing in Delhi which wounded at least four people, including the wife of an Israeli diplomat.

The woman was travelling in a diplomatic car which exploded close to the Israeli embassy in the Indian city.

Pictures from the Indian media showed the small minivan in flames. Israeli sources said the woman had just dropped her children off at school when the attack happened.

Indian police were investigating reports that an assailant on a motorbike had attached a bomb to the vehicle.

Three Indians suffered minor injuries and the Israeli woman, described locally as an "embassy employee", is said to be recovering from moderate wounds in hospital.

Israeli officials said an explosive device had also been discovered on a vehicle belonging to the Israeli envoy in the Georgian capital Tiblisi.

It was diffused without injury after a local employee spotted a suspicious package attached to the undercarriage of the car.

The incidents come on the fourth anniversary of the assassination of Hezbollah's deputy leader, Imad Mughniyah.

The Lebanese Islamist organisation, which receives funding and weapons from Iran, blames the assassination on Israel.

Israel has placed its diplomatic missions around the world on the highest state of alert.

Diplomats have been warned not to use their vehicles until they have been thoroughly checked.

Israel's Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman said Israel would not tolerate attacks on its officials abroad. "Israeli diplomats are on the frontlines," Mr Lieberman said.

Last month Thai police arrested a Lebanese man who was believed to have links to Hezbollah.

US and Israeli intelligence officials had received specific alerts of attacks against Israeli and foreign tourists in Bangkok just before the arrest.

In a separate development military officials warned that Iran was deploying "suicide boats" in the Gulf to target Western battleships.
