Jahi McMath Released Into Family Custody
A girl declared brain dead after a tonsillectomy has been taken out of a children's hospital, according to a lawyer for her family.
Christopher Dolan said that 13-year-old Jahi McMath left the Children's Hospital of Oakland in California, in a private ambulance at 8pm on Sunday.
She was attached to a ventilator, but not a feeding tube and her destination has not been disclosed, he added.
David Durand, the hospital's chief of paediatrics, said Jahi was released to the coroner, who then released her into the custody of her mother, Nailah Winkfield, following a court order.
A judge said on Friday that Ms Winkfield may remove the girl from the hospital if she assumed full responsibility for the consequences.
The teenager suffered a cardiac arrest after bleeding profusely following her operation last month.
Her family were hoping to move her to a New York facility after two California care homes withdrew offers to accept her.
