James Blake Home Murders: Dad Killed Family
A Florida man shot his wife and two teenage children in the head before setting their luxury home ablaze and killing himself, police have confirmed.
Hillsborough County Sheriff's spokeswoman Donna Lusczynski told a news conference on Friday that Darrin Campbell had placed fireworks and petrol around the house before starting Wednesday's fire.
But the businessman's motive for the killings at the mansion just north of Tampa, which his family were leasing from former tennis World No 4 James Blake, remains unclear.
"We also don't know why this occurred," Col Lusczynski said, according to the Tampa Bay Times.
Nor is it clear in which order Campbell gunned down wife Kimberley and their two children, 19-year-old son Colin and Megan, 16, whose identities the police have all now confirmed.
Campbell, who had no criminal record, carried out the shootings with a 40-calibre SIG Sauer handgun he bought last July, according to investigators.
The sheriff's office said it would be looking into Campbell's finances for any clues as to what could have made him snap.
He had recently taken some time off work, Col Lusczynski told reporters, before buying the materials on Sunday he used to turn the home into a fireball.
He had reportedly been employed as chief operating officer for a digital records firm in Tampa.
