James Blunt hits back at tax scandal reports

Singer James Blunt has hit back at a report linking him to a tax scandal, insisting attempts to question his contribution to the nation's finances are a "witch-hunt".

The You're Beautiful star hit headlines last week when it emerged his name is on a leaked list of HSBC bank customers with an offshore account on the Channel Island of Jersey.

The explosive list, which also contains the identities of several other high-profile Brits, has sparked a tax probe by officials at Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC), but Blunt is adamant his banking practices are legitimate and insists he pays his fair share into the U.K.'s public purse.

In a post on Twitter.com, the singer writes, "I have an account at HSBC Jersey which has always been declared to HMRC, and I pay my taxes. Witch-hunt."

About time the left wing realised tax avoidance is legal and prudent whilst tax evasion is illegal and a different thing. The so called left are amongst those who use the system so why hammer Blunt or any other person - if I had money i would do everything in my power to apply tax efficient measures rather than watch politicians waste my hard earnt cash giving freebies overseas.
