James Nesbitt's Monroe axed

Hit ITV show Monroe has been axed after two series.

The medical drama, starring James Nesbitt as a neurosurgeon, debuted in early 2011 and pulled in an average of 5.7 million viewers.

However, ratings for the latest series dropped to four million, and now a spokesperson for the channel confirms it will not be renewed for a third run.

A statement from ITV reads, "It has been a fantastic series, which we have been proud to have on the channel, but continuing to refresh our slate is an important part of the creative process for ITV Drama."

Ho! Don't tell me. They'd rather spend the cash on interminable interchangeable soap drivel or` I'm somebody you wouldn't want to be stuck in a lift with-get me out of here `clones.
