Jayden Parkinson's Ex-Partner Guilty Of Murder
The 22-year-old ex-boyfriend of pregnant teenager Jayden Parkinson has been found guilty of her murder.
The jury at Oxford Crown Court found Ben Blakeley guilty by a majority of 11-1 after more than 12 hours of deliberation at the end of a five-week trial.
Jayden was killed on December 3 last year, 24 hours after she had told Blakeley she was going to have his baby.
After strangling the 17-year-old, he buried her body in his uncle's grave in Didcot, Oxfordshire.
The former dustman was described in court as obsessive and controlling, having threatened to post naked videos and photographs of Jayden on Facebook after the couple broke up.
He had hoped she would kill herself as a consequence.
After the verdict was delivered, Blakeley walked to the cells and slammed the door of the dock behind him as his ex-girlfriend's family sobbed out loud.
Jayden's relatives did not wanted to comment as they left the court, but Detective Superintendent Chris Ward, of Thames Valley Police, said they were "extremely pleased" with the guilty verdict.
"This is the start for them to get closure," he said.
Blakeley had denied murder but admitted manslaughter and attempting to pervert the course of justice.
He will be sentenced on Friday.
