Jimmy Savile 'Abused Dying Hospice Patients'

Jimmy Savile sexually abused dying hospice patients, detectives are expected to reveal.

The late TV star also used the cover of his charity work to attack victims at many hospitals around the country, according to a dossier to be published by Scotland Yard.

It marks the end of the police investigation into allegations against Savile alone.

Prosecutors are also expected to offer an explanation over why Savile was never charged after some complaints were investigated during his life.

In the 10-week inquiry launched in October, after a TV documentary exposed Savile as a predatory and prolific paedophile, 450 people claimed they were his victims.

Detectives had already revealed that they have formally recorded 31 rape allegations and a total of 199 crimes, mostly of sex abuse, across 17 police force areas.

Peter Saunders, of the National Association for People Abused in Childhood, said: "Savile is one of the worst offenders in history.

"I'd put him alongside killers such ad Fred West, Harold Shipman and the Moors murderers, because he killed his victims' spirit and soul.

"Everywhere he went was an opportunity to commit his vile crimes against the most vulnerable victims in the most inappropriate places, hospitals, hospices, schools and children's homes."

He added: "Although Savile will never face justice, the police investigation has allowed people to speak up where they didn't before and free themselves of their burden."

It is thought that a Department of Health investigation into Savile's abuse at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, Leeds General Infirmary and Broadmoor - where he was a volunteer worker and allowed unprecedented access - will be expanded because of allegations from many other health establishments.

Broadmoor patient Steven George said: "For those who had gone while he was still living to the police they must be absolutely furious and there were, I understand, quite a few.

"I experienced the same almost cynical laughter when I tried to report him when he was alive and I hated that.

"But I would keep on reporting and I think victims need to come forward."

Scotland Yard has closed the part of Operation Yewtree that investigated claims of crimes committed by Savile alone, but continues to examine allegations of Savile offending with others, and suspects with no connection with him.

Is there no limited to this "man's" vileness? I've noticed that if you mention any celebrity recently named in the press some (certainly not all but some) people will refuse to even contemplate the idea if they are a fan. It explains why people should never be above question.

Youare right Steven. If people like someone's personality theygo into denial mode. Many, many comments showed that when this story broke last Autumn. People said things like "but he loved his mother" as if to prove that the allegations were lies. His victims were called liars and it is this denial that protects abusers.

Louisa, I think the majority of people were not in denial, but wanted a trial by jury not media. It then became clearer day by day that he was the monster people were stating. Hopefully there is an afterlife so he can get what he deserves.

Robert i could understand denial if they had liked this man, ( Although i completely fail to understand how anyone could have admired a repulsively boastful, self seeking, brassy show off like him). But it went further than that. Some were not saying what you suggest but relished the opportunity to call his victims liars and pour scorn upon them. His victims were the ones who were and are undergoing a trial by media and public opinon

Louisa what is becoming apparent is that on the back of this a whole series of unrelated allegations are being made against others some of whom may or may not be guilty. However the extent of exposures against Savile can affect due process in those cases and may result in miscarriages of justice

Sorry blue side but that is not apparentto me. In any inverstigstion of thid sort there will be one or two nutters who come forward with tall tales, it is not difficult to exclude these cases from the investigations. Police and other professionals develop a "nose" for what is true and untrue. Many people are put off revealing their abuse because although they are believed, they are told it will be a difficult process and they will be put under an unbearable spotlight.

I fail to see why Andrea Hill has 4 negative votes, to me she only prays that the vile man didn't abuse dying children meaning her feelings are with the poor kids. It is only a shame that Savile can't be made to suffer in the afterlife. I've said it before and I'll say it again, the man wanted burying over looking the sea, they should move his body away from the seaside somewhere remote and in secret.

Ah so you now don't think the dying victims were money grabbing horrible things like the other vulnerable child victims you previously and repeatedly slagged off. Apparently, he would, Andrea, despite your once arguing that he was a 'great man' and poo-pooing the victims who were coming forward and your claiming they only wanted the compo. But then, you ARE a nurse, aren't you? Hold on, aren't nurses supposed to have empathy and compassion and more than a little insight into issues like abuse and addiction, two sections you have unsympathetic, aggressive views about with a pitilessness that would have made your heroine Thatcher so envious. Thought nurses weren't supposed to discriminate against those in need of help.

Blue the comments she made about the victims were truelly horrible: "Awful women" "I hope they get nothing" "Money grabbers its so obvious" "How can money help the victims? Few holidays with lawyer?" "I said it was all for money" "Why didn't she say something then? This is a load of trash" "All about ££££. Women loved jimmy in the 70's" There's so many! Her reasoning? Just an opinion like ours. blue, Tricky is right about Andrea's comments about the victims. She was not the only one to make remarks like that and it was truly depressing to read them. I commented earlier that i could understand people who liked this man being in denial that he was capable of such actions and in denial at their own lack of good judgement in liking and admiring such a creep. What i cannot understand are the comments that Andrea and others made about the victims. I hope she is chastened and that she and all the others will have more empathy and sympathy for victims in the future.
