Keith Richards To Write A Children's Book
Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards has teamed up with his daughter to create a children's book based on the legendary rock star's own life.
Rather than telling the story of the rock 'n' roll excess the star is famous for, Gus & Me: The Story of My Granddad and My First Guitar is about how Richards was introduced to music by his grandad, Theodore Augustus Dupree.
Featuring illustrations by Richards' daughter, Theodora, the picture book will be published simultaneously in the US and UK.
It will also feature selected photographs from the Richards' family collection.
Keith Richards, 70, said: "I have just become a grandfather for the fifth time, so I know what I'm talking about.
"The bond, the special bond, between kids and grandparents is unique and should be treasured.
"This is a story of one of those magical moments. May I be as great a grandfather as Gus was to me."
Dupree, known as Gus, was in a jazz big band when he introduced his grandson to music.
Theodora Richards added: "To be able to explore my father's relationship with his grandfather was a gift in itself.
"The things I've learnt during this whole process have just been life-affirming."
The story, based on one which also featured in Richards' memoir Life, will go on sale in September this year.
Richards formed The Rolling Stones with Mick Jagger, Brian Jones, Ian Stewart, Charlie Watts and Bill Wyman in 1962.
The band has been performing for more than 50 years and has sold more than 200 million albums worldwide.
