Khan: WBA Has Agreed World Title Rematch

Amir Khan's promoters claim he has been offered a rematch with Lamont Peterson as they named the "mystery man" seen ringside at last month's title fight as an IBF official.

The British boxer used his Twitter account to post a series of images of the man wearing a dark hat, and to draw attention to his movements around the judges' table.

The man was seen talking to fight superviser Michael Welsh and pointing to something on the judges' scorecards being handled by Welsh.

Golden Boy Promotions chief executive Richard Schaefer claims he has been identified as Mustafa Ameen.

Mr Ameen is an IBF official who was not directly involved with the fight and who is alleged to have connections with Peterson's trainers.

"His name is Mustafa Ameen and the IBF have confirmed to us his name, and that he's involved in an official capacity with the IBF," Mr Schaefer told Sky Sports News.

Mr Schaefer added: "However, he was not in Washington in an official IBF capacity, but the IBF asked the Washington commission to issue him a credential so that he could attend the fight."

Peterson beat the Bolton boxer to claim the IBF and WBA light-welterweight belts in a controversial points decision in Washington DC.

But the fight is now expected to be declared a no-contest amid the row.

Mr Schaefer claims Khan has been offered a rematch with the American by the WBA, and the IBF are now likely to follow suit.

"We have been informed by the WBA that they will order an immediate rematch," Mr Schaefer added. "We received a verbal confirmation and we will get a written confirmation by Tuesday.

"That means that no fighter can take an interim fight, that the next fight for Peterson would be a rematch. We hope that the IBF will follow because that's the least they can do."

Khan wrote on Twitter on Saturday: "We are just hoping for answers now, and we have left it with our promoters and legal team.

"Apparently the ruling for someone interfering with the scorecards or judges, the fight is ruled as a no contest..

"Lets just wait and see if Michael Welsh or Mustafa Ameen come out and speak out, they know the truth n exactly what was going on." [sic]

It should be on neutral ground with neutral judges and referee..No non American fighter will win in the US unless he knocks out his opponent.

I thought Khan went to Washington to box Peterson but he ran a backwards marathon throughout the fight. He thought it would be an easy night's work but when Peterson started to take the fight to Khan he got on his bike and pedalled backwards furiously from about round three. He was too cocky for his own good and a forced rematch will only spur Peterson on to reach even greater heights than he did in the first fight. Khan believes he only has to turn up for any rematch to win but he still has a glass chin whereas Peterson has proved he can get back up off the floor to win. Khan is in for a big, big shock
