Lady Gaga refuses to verbally spat with Madonna
Lady Gaga is refusing to respond to Madonna's criticism of her hit song Born This Way, suggesting the Queen of Pop only mocked the young star to make herself "feel better".
The Material Girl raised eyebrows as she kicked off her MDNA world tour in Tel Aviv, Israel last month by combining her classic Express Yourself with Gaga's strikingly similar tune before declaring, "She's not me!"
The Poker Face singer appeared to address the controversy during her concert in New Zealand on Sunday night, when Gaga insisted the jibes could "never invalidate the power of Born This Way" and hinted that Madonna was just bitter about her chart rival.
She told the crowd in Auckland, "I don't even want to fight back because it's more important to me to keep writing music... Things are really different than they were 25 years ago, and that's what makes Born This Way so relevant for me... We're socially in a different place and it's OK, we don't have to all slice and hate each other any more.
"It sometimes makes people feel better about themselves to put other people down or make fun of them or maybe make mockery of their work."
Gaga was criticised for Born This Way last year after it was pointed out the track's melody is almost identical to that of the 53 year old's iconic 1989 release.
