Les Miserables heading back to Broadway in spring 2014

Les Miserables will return to Broadway in March, 2014 for a third run on the New York stage.

Producer Cameron Mackintosh announced the big theatre news on Tuesday - just days before he finds out if the movie version of the musical wins gold for Best Picture at the Oscars on Sunday.

A statement from Mackintosh reads: "To my constant surprise, my productions continue to be enjoyed as much as ever by audiences all around the world and I'm thrilled to have the unique chance of redoing them all over as if they were brand new shows. I'm even more delighted that they are proving just as big hits at the box office in their new form as the originals."

His new Les Miserables has been on tour in the US since November, 2010, grossing more than £81 million. The show originally opened in New York in 1987 and ran for 6,680 performances. It opened again in November 2006.
