Lindsay Lohan Faces Jail For Violating Probation
Lindsay Lohan could be sent back to jail after a Los Angeles judge revoked her probation over charges she allegedly lied to police about a car crash.
The probation ruling was widely expected after the 26-year-old was charged last month over crash in California, which came on the same day she was arrested over an alleged fight in a New York nightclub.
Liz & Dick star Lohan did not appear for Wednesday's brief hearing but was represented by her lawyer.
The probation stems from the alleged 2011 theft of a necklace from a jewellery store near her home in Venice, California.
The court set a date of January 15 for a hearing on the probation violation.
Lohan, who is struggling to get her life back on the rails, was charged last month with reckless driving and lying to police about whether she was driving a Porsche that crashed into a truck on the Pacific Coast Highway in June.
She allegedly told officers that she was not driving the car at the time of the crash but police say she was the driver.
Those charges carry a potential jail term of up to a year and she could be sentenced to 245 days in jail if the judge determines her conduct violates the terms of her probation.
The actress was released from supervised probation in March after several months of court appearances. She also had to work as a cleaner at a morgue.
Apart from her problems with the law, Lohan's latest acting project seems to have failed to catapult her back into the professional limelight.
Liz & Dick, a TV movie in which she portrays screen icon Elizabeth Taylor, with Grant Bowler as Richard Burton, was widely panned by critics after its premiere last month.
Metacritic, which assigns a rating out of 100 to reviews from mainstream critics, said the film received an average score of 26.
It was criticised for its weak script and awkward performances.
The respected Hollywood Reporter's critic called it "both an awful mess and an instant classic of unintentional hilarity," adding: "Lohan is woeful as Taylor from start to finish."
