M&S Trolley Row: Man Critical After 'Attack'

A 60-year-old man is critically ill after being struck by a trolley during an apparent row at a Marks and Spencer store.

The man suffered a broken hip and wrist following the incident at The Glades shopping centre in Bromley, southeast London.

He has since suffered further health complications and he remains in a critical condition in hospital.

A 30-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm (GBH) and bailed to return to a south London police station on January 29.

A Metropolitan Police spokeswoman said: "Police were called to a store in The Glades shopping centre, in Bromley, at 1pm on December 22, following reports of a man injured during an altercation.

"It is understood that the man, aged 60, was struck with a trolley after being pushed by a woman.

"He fell to the ground and sustained injuries including a broken hip and wrist, and was taken to a Kent hospital for treatment.

"On Wednesday, December 26, officers were informed that the man had suffered further health complications and that he was now in a critical condition.

"Officers subsequently arrested a 30-year-old woman on December 26, on suspicion of GBH.

"She was taken into custody at a south London police station and later bailed to return on January 29, pending further investigation.

"Inquiries continue led by officers from Bromley borough police."

An M&S spokesman said: "We can confirm that an incident took place at our Bromley store on Saturday, December 22.

"We are assisting the police with their investigation and therefore it would not be appropriate for us to comment any further."

A spokeswoman for The Glades shopping centre said the company would provide police with "every assistance" during their investigations.

Send the perpetrator of this heinous assault down for a considerable time, and I'm talking years, not months. I sincerely hope and pray that the Gentleman concerned makes a speedy and full recovery.

No, I'd wait to found out what has happened before I go jumping to conclusions and baying for blood. It's amazing how those, like yourself, who condemn violence, murder and so on, are always the first to scream for violence and murder as punishments, yet somehow fail to see the massive hypocrisy involved in that. Assuming for a moment she's guilty of pushing an innocent old man to the ground, she should be punished accordingly. Before you ask what that is, I leave that to legal professionals who have years of experience and a wealth of previous cases to draw on to decide, rather than believing I know better with my zero legal knowledge and only cursory knowledge of a case reported by a news outlet renowned for its right wing spin and a manufactured pretense of moral outrage

Our justice system works 95% of the time Diane. It's just those aforementioned right wing biased news outlets (or rather those that own/run them) have an agenda and so report (with bias) on every case they perceive as an injustice, knowing they can convince gullible people like you to think that that's the norm. Just the same as people like you believe prison is an easy ride and (how was it you put it) 'prisoners get treated better than people who work'. If that's the case, why aren't you queueing up to get into that cushy life?

Of course you don't want to join the executive set in prison Diane, because it doesn't exist. People like you always scream for harsher and harsher sentences like that will have a positive effect. Ignoring the fact that it simply wouldn't (you only have to look at the USA for that), where would you put all these thousands of extra people? Our prisons are busting at the seams as it is. As for your views on the death penalty, as I've previously mentioned, it's easily provable that it doesn't provide a deterrent, isn't cheaper and doesn't provide justice. Even families of victims are sometimes reported as not supporting it, like in the Alan Greaves case. It's just you and your hypocritical desire for violent revenge without a thought for the families it would affect. Sounds as bad as those you claim to despise, doesn't it.

Okay this woman obviously went off her trolley , which is way out of order but i get the impression that this man has underlying health issues that have not been diagnosed or stated in this news item.

I do my shopping online now, it's better for my blood pressure, supermarkets attract the brain dead, people who think it is ok to have a long conversation while they block an aisle with their trolleys for instance, or let their little darlings push the trolleys, grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Is the arrested woman to be charged with attempted murder? Because that's what it is!
