Madonna tops Billboard's end of year poll

Madonna has been named 2012's Most Valuable Player (MVP) by readers of American music magazine Billboard.

The pop superstar landed the top award in the publication's annual poll, ahead of R&B singer Frank Ocean and boyband One Direction in second and third places respectively.

The Material Girl also scooped titles for Best Tour for her MDNA shows, Favorite Billboard 200 No. 1 for her MDNA album, and Best TV performance for her appearance at America's Super Bowl.

Lana Del Rey was named Best Newcomer, Psy's Gangnam Style was feted as Best Music Video, and No Doubt were hailed for the Best Comeback.
