Madonna visits Sandy volunteers

Madonna is the latest star to visit the devastated area of Far Rockaway, New York to meet volunteers helping residents left without power and water in the wake of superstorm Sandy.

The Material Girl met with relief workers on Monday as the recovery effort continues in the hard-hit community following last month's storm.

Volunteer Mark Winkel tells the New York Daily News, "It's amazing how not a big deal this was. She (Madonna) had one bodyguard, and only a few people around. It was pretty cool seeing her there."

Wrapped up in a black coat and hat, the singer joined the Big Apple's Museum of Modern Art curator Klaus Biesenbach, who has been rallying his celebrity friends in a bid to get Mayor Michael Bloomberg to send more support for locals left struggling since the storm battered the East Coast.

Justin Timberlake and his new wife Jessica Biel, John Legend, and Kelly Osbourne have all offered a helping hand with relief efforts in New York over the weekend.
