Man Charged After Pensioner Hit By Car

A man has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving after an 80-year-old woman was knocked down crossing the road.

West Midlands Police have charged a 26-year-old man in connection with the incident, in which the woman was struck in Coventry Road in Yardley, Birmingham, on Saturday morning.

She was left seriously injured and died a short time later.

The suspect was later arrested after he handed himself in at Stechford police station.

Police say the man will appear before Birmingham magistrates on Monday.

The car believed to have been involved in the incident was recovered six miles away in Solihull.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said the woman had suffered "multiple serious injuries and was in cardiac arrest" when medics arrived, and nothing could be done to save her.

The woman's family have been informed, but police have not publicly named her.

I'd like to see an automatic 10 year ban on hit and run drivers who don't stip at the scene and speed off. Plus a two year provisional licence to prevent them from taking passengers and no motorway driving.

James, these people will drive, even if you ban them for a 100 years, so what do you do? they have this belief that they are entitled to do anything that they want, when ever they want.

I'd like to see them serve 10 full years in prison, and more if they were spaced out on cannabis. One in 9 17 year olds admits to driving under the influence. And what do the grown ups say, Legalise it. welcome to Crazy Britain, the land where all your worst nightmares are soon to come true.

Poor dear :'( we need tougher penalties, particularly when a life has been taken. It's lack of human decency to leave the scene of an accident. Families destroyed by this tragic event too. Very sad.
