Indefinite Jail For Man Who Blinded Girlfriend

A man who gouged out his girlfriend's eyes during a savage attack has been jailed indefinitely.

Powerfully-built Shane Jenkin, 33, also throttled Tina Nash unconscious and broke her jaw and nose.

Efforts to save the sight in one of 31-year-old's eyes failed and she was left completely blind.

Jenkin, of Sea Lane, Hayle, Cornwall, admitted a charge of grievous bodily harm with intent last month but denied a charge of attempted murder.

He was handed an indeterminate sentence by a judge at Truro Crown Court for the attack at Ms Nash's home in Hayle in April last year.

The judge set a minimum jail term of six years and made a "hybrid order" that Jenkin should be detained at a secure psychiatric hospital.

Jenkin, who is 6ft 4ins tall, had refused to attend court.

Details of his explosive, unpredictable temper emerged as Ms Nash spoke movingly last month of how her life had been wrecked.

Jenkin was banned from Penzance pubs for five years after attacking a policeman in early 2010.

The mother-of-two, whose children were aged 13 and three at the time of the attack, said she was glad Jenkin had "at least taken responsibility for changing my life forever".

She said: "I truly feel that, when he was strangling me, he was trying to murder me.

"He has taken everything from me and robbed me of one of the most precious things in life - my sight.

"I miss the things which people take for granted the most, such as seeing the sky and the sea."

what do you think?

I'm reading this right arent I?! The man took this poor girls eyes out with his fingers, broke her nose and jaw which is probably the most horrific crime he could have commited without actually taking her life. I read that right?! I mean I'm not mistaken at all am I? WHY did he refuse to go to court? WHY does he have the right to refuse to go to court? WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS COUNTRY? He refused to go to court - I'm so angry I can't tell you or this will be removed. The minimum term was set at six years - in a cushy hospital. HE SHOULD BE IN WITH THE REST OF THE CRIMINALS IN JAIL AND HAVING TO WATCH HIS OWN BACK FOR THE REST OF HIS DAYS! This whole case stinks from start to finish and he's laughing about it. Another HUGE let down by the justice system for my money.

Terrible crime - the thing that so many fear most. I hope that she manages to cope with this terrible disability. One feels at times like this that there is some merit in the Old Testament 'eye for an eye...'

Why had he not been jailed for the attack on the policeman? If he had been he wouldn't have been around to commit this attack. Presumably her children found her. It is beyond belief.

This man truly is the vilest of all creatures. To by so vicious at to gouge another person's eyes out, especially those of a woman with whom he is in a relationship with is absolutely horrendous. Any human being capable of committing such acts needs to be removed from society completely. THIS act is as deserving of a death sentence as any i've ever read about. Instead he will cost the state millions of pounds to incarcerate and we wonder why we have such a broken society.

keep him in a cell with no light or windows , this might make hime think a little bit what he has done ....as he will be forced to endure a littleof what he has inflicted on ms Nash...

Old saying- Eye for an eye- this evil thug should have his own eyes taken out- but in this political correct Europe controlled country this would be against his human rights. also locking him up indefinatly some clever lawyer would get him let out with a big compensation cheque. The end result will be he will get a small sentence in a institution for so called Psychiatric patients, let out after a few years then given a new identity, free house with all bills paid by the tax payer - seen it all before with the James Bulger murderers

Stephen with the victim being in court it was propably best that he was not in court in case he made a lunge for her or shouted abuse, although they could have linked him up to the courts video link from where he was to here the sentence. Also if he went to a normal prison he would have got 6 years instead the judge sent him to a secure mental hospital where he will probably stay for the rest of his life which is better than 6 years in prison where he would of been out in 2

That poor woman. How she and her children must be suffering. She will never see her children grow up, get married and have her grandchildren, or even see the colours of flowers, trees, grass, trees, sunlight etc. A minimum of 6 years is not enough, it should be life. He obviously has an anger problem which caused problems in 2010. I am not vindictive, but a previous person's comment 'an eye for an eye' seems very apt in this case (God help me). How many people are going to suffer at his hands if and when he is released. HOME SECRETARY - KEEP HIM LOCKED UP AND PROTECT THE PEOPLE WHO PAY YOUR WAGES. HOW MANY TIMES HAVE POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS PEOPLE (WHO HAVE EVEN HAD PSYCHIATRIC TREATMENT) BEEN RELEASED TO HARM OTHERS BEFORE THEY ARE FINALLY LOCKED AWAY FOR GOOD.
