Man Who Woke Up In Body Bag Dies
A man who was mistakenly declared dead last month only to wake up in a body bag has died.
Walter Williams, 78, died at his home in Lexington, Mississippi, at around 1am on Thursday, Holmes County Coroner Dexter Howard said.
The cause of death was not released.
Williams' story went viral after funeral home workers preparing to embalm him last month realised he was kicking inside the body bag.
His nephew, who watched his "deceased" uncle being placed into a body bag once before, was present when coroners came to the home on Thursday.
"Well, they came and got him again around 4.15am," Eddie Hester told WAPT-TV. "I think he's gone this time."
Williams had no pulse when he was first pronounced dead on February 26.
Doctors later said a mix of medicines may have caused his vital signs to appear unresponsive.
Family members also said Williams' pacemaker may have stopped working and started again.
