Manchester Shootings: Boy Arrested At School

A 15-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with the murders of two policewomen in Manchester.

Greater Manchester Police arrived at a school in Hattersley at around 2.30pm on Friday and arrested the teenager on suspicion of assisting an offender.

He has been bailed pending further inquiries.

Assistant Chief Constable Garry Shewan said: "We have arrested a 15-year-old on suspicion of assisting an offender.

"This remains a complex and sensitive investigation and we continue to ask the public to search their conscience and urge anyone who has any information to contact us."

PC Nicola Hughes, 23, and PC Fiona Bone, 32, died from gunshot wounds after they were called to a report of a burglary at a house on the Hattersley estate in Tameside, Greater Manchester, on Tuesday.

Dale Cregan, 29, appeared in court on Friday morning charged with their murder.

He was also charged with killing David Short, 46, and his 23-year-old son Mark, who died in separate attacks earlier this year, and the attempted murders of Michael Belcher, Ryan Pridding and John Short on May 25 and Sharon Hark on August 10.

Cregan was remanded in custody until September 24.

He wore a false black onyx eye in his left eye socket and spoke only to confirm his name and date of birth to the courtroom, which was packed with reporters.

Meanwhile, police have released 28-year-old Stephen Garvey without charge. He was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder.
