Mayor flings dog poo on neighbour's garden
The mayor of a wealthy Los Angeles suburb has apologised after he was captured on film tossing a bag of dog faeces onto a neighbour's property.
Dennis Kneier, leader of San Marino, California, said he should have disposed of the waste properly, instead of throwing it into the front yard.
He told the Whittier Daily News he and his wife were walking home from a park on Saturday night when they found the bag of excrement on a pavement.
"I made a mistake of putting it in his walkway," Mayor Kneier told the newspaper.
"Rather than leaving it, I should have walked on by or disposed of it properly."
Householder Philip Lao said he recognised Mr Kneier from his home surveillance video and called police. Officers photographed the bag.
Mr Lao said he believed the incident was payback for his past opposition to some of the mayor's proposals, including plans for a dog park. Mr Kneier denies this.
San Marino Police Department said it was still investigating the matter.
The owner of the dog who left the mess has not come forward.
