Melanie Chisholm succeeds in charity girl band mission

Singer Melanie Chisholm succeeded in her mission to form a new girl band in less than a day as part of a charity challenge.

Chisholm teamed up with comedienne Miranda Hart for auditions in Birmingham on Wednesday to find four wannabe pop stars for a makeshift band with the funnywoman as part of Miranda's Mad March week-long challenge in aid of Comic Relief.

The singers and Hart, dubbed Onesie Direction, had just hours to prepare their routine before performing Spice Girls hit Spice Up Your Life live on BBC's The One Show.

Changing the lyrics for the charity, they sang, "This girl band is so cool... It's all for a good cause."

Speaking after the set, Chisholm declared, "They absolutely smashed it."
