Melanie Griffith was once busted for underage driving
Actress Melanie Griffith lied to cops when she was caught driving a car when she was just a schoolgirl.
The Working Girl star reveals her mum, actress Tippi Hedren, taught her to drive so she could be independent at a young age, and her stepfather Noel Marshall gave her a handy piece of advice for getting out of trouble with the law.
Griffith tells U.S. talk show host Jimmy Kimmel, "I'm a really good, fast driver. Actually, my mom taught me how to drive when I was about 12 years old. This was a long time ago, so L.A. was different. It was good for her and my stepfather because then they didn't have to get up and take me to school, I could just drive. It's true... I drove to school when I was about 14.
"We had a whole thing that I didn't say my correct name if I got pulled over. I said a different name... My stepfather - one of my mom's husbands who's not alive anymore so I can say this - he was a bit of a criminal. He said to me, 'Whatever you do, don't say your name's Melanie Griffith. Say it's Melanie Marshall and you'll be fine.' So I did!
"I got the ticket and I had to go in (to court) and appear in front of the judge with my stepfather as Melanie Marshall and I got a big slap on my wrist."
