Miami Cannibal Victim Recalls Attack Horror
The homeless man from Miami who was set upon by a naked cannibal has told police he had his face "chewed up" and his eyes "ripped out" during the horrific attack.
Ronald Poppo, 65, was blinded as a result of the May 26 attack and has since undergone skin grafts to repair the severe mutilations to his face.
"He just ripped me to ribbons," Mr Poppo said during an interview with Miami police, obtained by CBS Miami.
"He chewed up my face. He plucked out my eyes ... And basically that's all there is to say about it."
Mr Poppo was beside the exit ramp of one of Miami's major roads when he was approached by 31-year-old Rudy Eugene. The pair spoke briefly, before Eugene began his 18-minute-long attack.
"For a very short amount of time I thought he was a good guy," Mr Poppo said during the police interview.
"But he just went and turned berserk. He apparently didn't have a good day at the beach and he - he was coming back. And I guess he took it out, took it out on me, or something. I don't know."
The attack ended when a police officer shot and killed Eugene as he tore into Mr Poppo's face.
Mr Poppo told police he did not know what provoked the attack - which was caught on surveillance video - but added that he thought Eugene was on drugs.
"What can provoke an attack of that type? I certainly didn't curse at the guy, or say anything mean or nasty to him," he said.
