Michael Moore's bail cash at risk over Julian Assange's asylum plea

Filmmakers Michael Moore and Ken Loach are set to lose up to £20,000 each after WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange broke his bail conditions as he battles extradition.

Campaigning director Moore and veteran movie boss Loach were among the public figures who contributed to a £240,000 bond handed over to free Assange after he was held by police in London in 2010.

Assange is wanted in Sweden over allegations he sexually assaulted two women, but he fears the extradition would open the door for his transfer to the U.S. to face charges over his whistleblowing website.

As a condition of his bail, Assange was ordered to reside at a specific address but earlier this week he moved into Ecuador's embassy in London to demand sanctuary - and now his bondsmen face losing their contributions.

Hugh Grant's former lover, socialite Jemima Khan, confirmed she also handed over cash towards Assange's bail, telling fans on Twitter.com, "I had expected him to face the allegations. I am as surprised as anyone by this."

Assange became a wanted man in the U.S. after WikiLeaks published hundreds of top-secret and highly sensitive official documents.
