Mick Jagger's Girlfriend Found Dead In New York
Mick Jagger's fashion designer girlfriend L'Wren Scott has been found dead in her New York City apartment.
US media reports, citing law enforcement sources, say the death is being investigated as a possible suicide.
"We confirm the tragic death of L'Wren Scott," a spokesperson for Scott said in a statement.
"At this devastating time for Ms Scott's family and friends we request that their privacy be respected."
A spokesman for Jagger, who is currently on tour in Australia, said the singer is "completely shocked and devastated".
Scott, 49, began dating the 70-year-old rocker in 2001.
Originally from Utah, Scott had her own fashion label popular with celebrities, and was a fixture on Jagger's arm.
At around 6ft 3in, she towered over her famous boyfriend on the red carpet.
Scott founded her high-end label in 2006 and recently created a more affordable line of clothes with retailer Banana Republic.
She has dressed several stars, including Nicole Kidman, Oprah Winfrey, Sarah Jessica Parker, Angelina Jolie and Madonna.
Madonna said: "This is a horrible and tragic loss. I'm so upset.
"I loved L'Wren's work and she was always so generous with me."
Makeup artist Bobbi Brown, who recently collaborated with Scott on a cosmetics line, also paid tribute to her friend and colleague.
"I am devastated by the tragic news about L'Wren," Brown wrote on her website.
"She was a visionary designer who I very much enjoyed working with, but she was also smart and kind. My thoughts and heartfelt condolences go out to her loved ones during this very sad time."
Just last month Scott cancelled her London Fashion Week show, due to reported production delays.
The Rolling Stones are slated to perform in Perth on Wednesday.
