Miliband: NHS Reforms Will Be PM's Poll Tax
David Cameron's NHS reforms will become "his poll tax", the Labour leader suggested during Prime Minister's Questions.
Ed Miliband urged him to drop his Health and Social Care Bill and accused him of excluding key groups from a Downing Street health summit.
On Monday, Health Secretary Andrew Lansley was heckled when he arrived for a meeting with some, but not all, of the organisations representing the NHS.
The Labour leader said those not invited included: "The GPs, the nurses, the midwives, the pathologists, the psychiatrists, the physiotherapists and, just for good measure, the radiologists."
He said far from bringing doctors and nurses with him in his reforms, the Prime Minister could no longer be in the same room as them.
But Mr Cameron said the health service was receiving greater investment and attacked the Labour leader for "complete opportunism".
"But let's be frank: money alone is not going to be enough," he said.
"We have got to meet the challenge of an ageing population, more expensive treatments, more people on long-term conditions and that is why we have got to reform the NHS.
"My summit was about those organisations, including clinical commissioning groups up and down the country - 8,200 GP practices - that want to put these reforms in place."
He pushed his Labour rival to ask him about the "risk register" - an assessment of the impact of the reforms and the subject of a debate instigated by the Opposition later.
The Prime Minister told MPs he had seen Labour's briefing on the issue, which revealed the reasons why such a document might legitimately not be released.
He also said Andy Burnham blocked the publication of a risk register when he was health secretary in 2009.
what do you think?

Bill Fleming
If Mr Milliband's Party had not mismanaged this country for most of it's 13 year tenure, we would have the money to make sure cutback reforms weren't required. He, and that other Ed, Mr Balls-up, seem to have forgotten that a very large slice of the mess we're in was their doing!

Alf Bibby
Bill like all tories you have been taken in by calamity camerons spin, dastardly dave is conning you he is a coward with no substancehe knows and you know that he will not be there in three years time unfortunatly the damage he is doing will be

Austin Samara
Country was doing fine under Labour, until the bankers send the country in to slippery road,

Very true but the current clowns are not improving the situation either!

Well said Alf and Austin. All the tories are touching ,the N.H.S ,The armed forces are turnig to $h1 t. They could not manage a bunk up in a brothel.Labour had its faults but they are saints compared to this bunch of out of touch multi millionaire idiots.

John Woodward
Yes Mr. Fleming, Most of the 13 years were taken up by sorting the mess out made by the previous Tory governments. We are suffering now for it. Selling off all the utilities just as they are trying to sell of the NHS.

This coalition is just copying Thatcher's government. Destroy the industries, support the bankers, privatise the NHS and use the people on benefits as cheap labour. My brother was on exactly the same scheme in the last Tory government. It was Richard Branson's idea to get people to work for their JSA plus 10 pounds a week. To give him his due my brother stuck with the schemes but NEVER got a permanent job at the end of it. This coalition scrapped the regional organisations such as OneNorthEast (who were doing a great job) to bring back 'enterprise zones'. They didn't work then so why should they work now? The schemes I mean, not the people. As for the NHS - I certainly do hope that this signals the end of Cameloon and his hated coalition.

well said .Sooner the better. 5 letters in the sun saying the same .Surprrisineg as they have turned tory.

Surprising *

Petulant Child Cameron
Absolutely John, the tories forget the state they left the NHS in when they finally got kicked out in 95. Norman Fowler destroyed!! And if Cameron gets his way now there will be no way back for the NHS. I don't how old Bill Fleming is but if in future he has any eye problems he won't get the care he needs in this country because no money will be invested in training the doctors and surgeons in this speciality as it's regarded to be one of the less glamorous specialities like feet, but wait until you have a 70% retina detachment, they will change their minds!

Bill Fleming
Well now, I am a diabetic with eye complications and in the next week or 2 I'm having a triple bypass, NHS are doing a grand job for me so far, mind you, I work hard and pay my taxes like most good people. It's the soft approach to all the spongers Labour encouraged that draws the guts out of the system. So now you know roughly how old I am!

paulnaylor
hmmn bill seems to me that under tory there will be more spongers (as you call them) than ever, I dont see the dole queue shrinking .....do you. Ps. over 2.5mill unemployed, 450,000 available jobs nation wide, my maths tells me that theres only a 1 in 5 chance of getting a job, if there was 2.5mill unemployed and 2.5mill available jobs you may of had a point....my advice, take the rose specs off and wake up.

I dont see what immigration has to do with NHS reforms, or am i missing something

I watched prime ministers questions and saw Cameron dodge every question relating to the future of the NHS. I watched in dismay as he tried time and time again to change the subject. He hasn't got the guts to tell the voters that his ultimate aim is the Americanisation of our health service. I sincerely hope that this ill conceived bill is the tories poll tax all over again. The old saying is true. "You can't trust the tories with the health service".

tagliatellius
As long as our dear gobsmiths have their wallets stuffed by big business for favours done, then they are happy, they don't give a monkey's for the country, in fact I get the impression that they are doing their very best to destroy Great Britain.

MichaelStinton
Just been to see my doctor, he is 100% opposed to the Bill and says 95% of his colleagues are too. Apparantly all the new committees and consultation groups in our are are being headed up by NHS jobsworths many earning over £200k pa and administrators far from being reduced are breeding like rabbits!
