Missing April Jones: Mother's Emotional Appeal

The mother of missing April Jones has made an emotional appeal for help in finding her daughter.

Coral Jones, who was accompanied by her stepfather, April's step-grandfather, Dai Smith, sobbed as she said: "It's been 36 hours since April was taken from us.

"There must be someone out there who knows where she is and can help the police find her. We are desperate for any news.

"April is only five years old. Please, please, help find her."

After her plea, she broke down in tears, holding her head in her hands, and was comforted by Mr Smith as Detective Superintendent Reg Bevan made a further appeal for information.

Police are now searching a vacant farmhouse two miles from Dyfi River.

Detectives had earlier asked for information from anyone who saw 46-year-old Mark Bridger between Monday evening and when he was arrested in connection with the abduction on Tuesday afternoon.

They also took the unusual step of issuing images of the suspect and his metallic blue Land Rover Discovery during the earlier, unscheduled news conference.

Det Supt Bevan, of Dyfed Powys Police, said: "We are pursuing a number of lines of inquiry and Mark Bridger is one of them.

"Do not assume somebody else has already contacted us with information. Even if you feel yours is trivial, it may be the vital piece that we are missing."

He said more than 50 volunteers were helping mountain rescue teams in the search for April and that police had details of many more who were able to help.

"We are extremely grateful for their help in this search and their support has been vital," Det Supt Bevan added.

April was last seen playing on her bicycle with friends near her home in the Bryn Y Gog estate in Machynlleth, mid Wales, at around 7pm on Monday.

Det Supt Bevan also used the previous appeal for witnesses who may have seen Bridger over the last two days - or his 4x4 vehicle, registration number L503 MEP.

"We are in the process of piecing together his movements and that of the vehicle from around 5pm on Monday evening through to 3.30pm Tuesday afternoon when Mark Bridger was arrested," he said.

Anyone with information relating to the case is asked to call Child Rescue Alert Line on 0300 2000 333.

I bet she is kicking herself now that she did not take more care of the young girls safety. Out in the dark and cold at 7 pm and the child being only 5 years old. Total lack of parenting skills.

The family had only just arrived home after an open evening in her school..That is partly the reason she was out and about at that time, so is it the schools fault now for having an evening like that?? I must be an awful mother, my 6 and 2 yr old were out playing until 6.30-6.45 on 2 occasions last week, and we live 9 MILES down the road from Machynlleth.. Shall I give you my address so you can ring the social on me... We live in what is considered to be one of very few safe areas in U.K. We trust our neighbours and people in our community.. If not we would end up living like all these city people who don't even know the name of their next door neighbour.. What has happened to April has never occured before in this area, well not in my lifetime anyway!! P.S I lost my 2 yr old son 4 yrs ago when I was shopping in our Woolworths store, one minute he was standing by my side, I only tapped in my pin number to pay and by the time I looked down he had gone, just 3 mins passed before I found him, but it goes to show how easily these things happen..

ICG its funny how you presume you live in one of the safest areas in the UK, my sister did the same until the local school was all over the news with a FEMALE teacher was takin pictures of children and sending them to some bloke in Manchester, as a parent you NEVER let your guard down even if you think your in the safest place on the planet.

Many of us think we live in safe places and pay handsomely to be in "desirable" areas. We are not safe and an area is no longer desirable the minute a predator moves in down the road.

Dont give the man cups of tea and all day breakfast and a good nights sleep.as i said before the little girl could be suffering from from hyperthermia somewhere and this man could know her wherabouts.torture him and if he is innocent no doult he will be compensated in future.however if hes guilty it might save the little girls life.

And then if the outcome is what we are all now fearing. We will give him his own cell ( on the 43s)with sky satalite and he will not go hungary again for 15 years or less until he get parole.all paid for the taxpayer.only for the threat that he will do it again.
