Morrissey Cancels Shows Due To Bleeding Ulcer

Former Smiths frontman Morrissey has postponed a series of concerts due to his bleeding ulcer - the latest problem to hit his tour of America.

The 53-year-old singer has been forced to cancel six shows as he continues to receive hospital treatment.

His spokeswoman Lauren Papapietro said: "Morrissey is expected to make a full recovery and thanks everyone concerned for their support during this time.

"Morrissey apologises greatly for any and all inconvenience and looks forward to continuing his US tour."

Morrissey had checked into a clinic in Detroit on Friday.

He was originally thought to be suffering from a bladder infection but has now been diagnosed as having a bleeding ulcer, which can require surgery.

He has put off concerts in Asheville, North Carolina; Nashville, Tennessee; Atlanta, Georgia; Lawrence, Kansas; Clear Lake, Iowa; and Lincoln, Nebraska.

This follows the cancellation of three shows last week due to an unspecified illness in the band.

Even that was not the first setback to Morrissey's 2012-13 US tour.

In October, the singer postponed 26 shows so that he could fly home to England and attend to his ailing mother.

He is expected to return to the stage in Las Vegas on February 9.

Morrissey led Manchester indie band The Smiths in the 1980s.

He recently revealed that he had refused an offer to reform the group for the Coachella festival, to take place in California in April.

Morrissey is still said to be looking for a label with which to record his next solo album.
