Morrissey recovering from bleeding ulcer

Morrissey has called off his planned gigs over the next two weeks as he recovers from a bleeding ulcer.

The singer was expected to be back on stage on Monday after it first emerged he was admitted to hospital with a suspected bladder infection on Friday.

However, his spokesperson now reveals Morrissey was struck down with a bleeding ulcer, and was treated at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan.

In a statement, representative Lauren Papapietro writes, "Morrissey is expected to make a full recovery and thanks everyone concerned for their support during this time."

Due to his illness, Morrissey is postponing upcoming shows on his U.S. tour, including stops in Asheville, North Carolina; Nashville, Tennessee; Atlanta, Georgia; Lawrence, Kansas; Clear Lake, Iowa; and Lincoln, Nebraska.

He is planning to resume the trek in Las Vegas on 9 February.
