Mother Arrested After Son Takes Gun To School

Police in New York City have arrested the mother of a seven-year-old boy who took a gun and ammunition to school in his rucksack.

Deborah Farley was arrested on Friday on several charges including criminal possession of a weapon and endangering the welfare of a child.

Police say the 53-year-old's son had taken the handgun to his Queens elementary school on Thursday.

They said it was not clear whether the boy initially knew it was in his bag.

Police said when the mother learned about the gun she rushed to school and told officials her son had a dental appointment.

The boy said he had given the weapon to a friend, at which point she alerted the principal.

The school, which has been practising for security drills since the Sandy Hook massacre, was immediately locked down.

The seven-year-old's rucksack was searched and the semi-automatic pistol, a magazine containing ten rounds and a plastic bag with bullets in it was found.

A flare gun was found in the second boy's bag, police said.

Another case of leaving guns lying around for kids to pick up and misuse. If you have got to have guns in the house lock the damn things away and keep the ammunition in a separate locked box.

I would love to own a rifle and go hunting rabbits etc but with a 2 year old son i wouldnt take the risk of even having it locked away! Americans are muppets and need to get a grip and sort there laws out! Guns in the wrong hands are bad. Ive shot pigeons and rabbits on my mates farm with shotguns but we was sensible and always safe! Thats the only reason for a gun in my eyes.

Hmmm.....made a tongue in cheek comment on an article about arming the school janitors. "It won't be long til "Mom" will be waving little Jonny off to school with his sandwiches and a 9mm in his backpack".......Didn't think it would become a reality.....but then again it's America and nothing surprises me anymore....

Americans are so hooked on the second amendment that stories like this will continue to be reported along with shootings, mass killings etc. The word amendment means alteration so why can't the thick Americans realise this and see that their precious constitution needs amending now? They are no longer a young frontier country, growing and developing and they must change. The USA has the biggest arsenal in the world and they are the most dangerous, immature, gung-ho country around.

It's just like I thought. The psychopaths are getting younger. He seems to have been also arming an "accomplice". I think we will eventually be reading of four year young Americans taking guns into nursery schools and shooting their nursery school psychologists, teachers and friends. It could be ... give me minus votes all you like, as usual ... but ... it could well be ... children of today are becoming more intelligent due to computing at school and at home and everywhere else and children of seven are well aware what guns are, how to use them and have killed many people in computer war games? Armed psychopaths in America and even in other countries could well be getting younger. In the British Army schools I went to overseas children were punished for taking toy guns into school when they were about ten years of age. They even took toy grenades into schools with exploding caps.
